Key Stage 3:

Overview

At Southbrook, all pupils receive one discreet lesson a week of Computing. In addition to this they have opportunities in all subject areas to use the computing suite, laptops, iPads and other forms of technology.

Our aim in computing is to ensure that all our pupils become computer and technology literate for working and adult life. We also focus strongly on staying safe when using technology.

What will I Learn?

  • How to stay safe online
  • How to use the Internet and email
  • To create a variety of documents using word processing software
  • To create comic strips, mini books and movies
  • To program using Scratch

 Key Stage 3 Computing 2018-2019

Key Stage 4:

Overview

In Key Stage 4 pupil’s complete qualifications provided by ASDAN Lifeskills Challenges – an e-learning resource that offers qualifications in a range of areas across the Computing curriculum. Children will complete units in the following areas in Year 10:

  • Internet Safety
  • Safeguarding Social Networking
  • Safeguarding your Digital Profile

Pupils also get the opportunity to complete AQA unit awards in IT and Computing in Year 11. The Unit Award Scheme offers learners the opportunity to have their achievements formally recognised with a certificate issued by AQA each time a short unit is successfully completed. These units will focus on staying safe online and using IT as a resource to plan for employment.

Assessment details

AQA unit awards and ASDAN Life Skills Challenges are assessed by the class teacher. Pupils need to demonstrate that they can complete each outcome by producing a portfolio of work.
